Windows Media Player 11 Crash (APPCRASH), Vista 32-bit

Post Windows Media Player 11 Crash (APPCRASH), Vista 32-bit
Hello to all.

Just today (20070108) WMP 11 will not work. I can try a local video or audio
file and it will stop working. I can try one linked from the internet or via
streaming (such as a radio station) and it will not work.

WMP 11 worked perfectly prior to today. I have only installed two programs
within the last month, Polar Personal Trainer 5 and OutSync for Facebook.
Both operated fine and did not affect the functionality of WMP 11.

I'm a tech-support novice so I did the basics. I checked via 'dxdiag.exe' to
see if there were any issues. The only thing that I could find was that since
I'm using an older computer/motherboard was the following:

"The file cmuda.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not
been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be
able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer."

Here is my system information:
Time of this report: 1/8/2008, 11:42:57
Machine name: DREWMERL-SOHO
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build
6000)(6000.vista_gdr.071009-1548)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: PCCHIPS
System Model: T12
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 2814MB RAM
Page File: 1181MB used, 4645MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode

Next I uninstalled the last two programs and did a cleaning via Windows Live
Vista online.

When that didn't work I did a System Restore to before the installations.

When that didn't work I defaulted to online searches, but nothing I found
besides a few threads gave me any direction.

Here is the crash report:

I only have one monitor running, two hard drives (one interntal eSATA and
external USB backup), memory, OS and processor are listed above.

It will start to play any media and then hang...show the "Windows Media
Player has stopped working..." it will run for a few seconds and then present
the 'close program' button.

I do have Office 2007 Ultimate, Nero bloat 8 and Adobe Web/Production Suite
installed. I do not have iTunes, Zune or any other player installed.

Thank you for any help/advice you can offer.

Your DRM cache is corrupt, I'd think - does resetting it--
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891664/en-us
get your system working again? =\

Post Windows Media Player 11 Crash (APPCRASH), Vista 32-bit
Hi,

I didn't have this issue personally but a few google searches and I
came up with a site that may help.
'WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CRASHES ON STARTUP - Technology Questions'

This website has the original post by someone having similar issues. A
poster to his question stated this website for WMP(Windows Media Player)
tips to common issues. The link is:
'WMP FAQ: A trouble-shooting guide for Windows Media Player problems.'

hope this helps,
