Post Why does not a computer bootup from my Windows XP pro SP2 ..
Hello!
Why does not a computer bootup from my Windows XP pro SP2 backup CD? I made
the CD by copying all the files and folders from my original Windows XP pro
SP2 CD to it? What did I do wrong?
Best regards,
Dima

That's not how you make a 'boot-able' CD.
You can't simply copy the files and expect it to be a bootable CD.
You see there are a number of hidden files and other secret files you
can't see that are vital to making it bootable.

You need to use a utility program like CloneCD to do this.

http://www.slysoft.com/
They allow you to try out the software for 21 days.
It's really good and dead easy to use.

I'm not associated with this company. I 'm just a happy user of it.

Actually, you don't need anything special to copy an XP install cd. You
don't need to mess about with third-party cloning programs or worry
about creating a "bootable cd". You simply need to copy the cd with a
third-party burning program.

It doesn't sound like you did a "copy cd" and it sounds like you copied
the install disk incorrectly. Buying some program won't help. What you
should do is replace the broken original (see link below) and then do a
"copy cd" with third-party burning software.

They replace the CD too far from me. It will take too much time.

"Cracked", scratched, etc - doesn't matter - you were able to copy the files
off it to burn to CD - try Quatermass' suggestion and copy the CD 1-to-1.
Otherwise you will need to use something like Bart's Boot Image Extractor to
pull the boot image off the Windows XP CD and use that image and your
burning programs "make bootable CD" and a few customized options (the
defaults will *not* work) to create your bootable Windows XP CD.

You might look here for more ideas on copying the CD, some of the links show
you how to slipstream SP2 - which in turn show you how to burn a bootable

You can't, you need an image of the boot sector, which you can get and use
here following the instructions.
