Hi Mike,
I can admit to the same - "having a Welsh mother and grandmother", but they
came from Ebbw Vale, a lot further south.
Unfortunately, I haven't a lot of knowledge of the country. Two of my
brothers lived in Britain for many years (at different times) and the wife
of the elder of these two brothers also came from Ebbw Vale - not so
surprising as she is our first cousin, once removed - my grandmothers
great-granddaughter. My eldest brother has also visited Britain (including
Wales) more often than I have, but then he was a QANTAS manager, so could
get cheap airfares. (He still can, I think, even though he is retired).
So Wales is just a place of my ancestors to me, unlike for my
sister-in-law/cousin, who is still very Welsh at 72 years old.
