Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to capture a picture from a vacation video.
I have Roxio, Pinnacle, and Windows Movie Maker. Could anyone tell me of a
easy to use program that will do this (or any of the above)? I have a Sony
DVD disc that my movie is on. Also, do I have to have the movie loaded on my
hard drive or can I run it from my dvd? I found a small program called
VideoSnaps but it wouldn't accept my file extension. And I know nothing about
codecs. I thought about buying InterVideo WinDVD7 but if I already have a
program that can do this I would rather not buy one. Any directtion on how
to do this is greatly appreciated. THANKS

Hi Graham, thanks for your help. I'll post what number the programs are. I
have Windows XP Professional. I was able to figure out how to drag the movie
into Windows Movie Maker, but when I play it nothing comes on the screen. (I
had to put it on the hd first) I think maybe I should buy WinDVD 7. Thanks
again.
Anyone else have any ideas?

WinDVD (all versions as far back as 3) do screen captures. I think I've
gone through 3, 3000, 5, 6 and now on v7.... which is by far the nicest
interface!

You don't say which versions of the programmes you have.
MM will not work with Mpegs.
Pinnacle later versions do.
Not sure about roxio.
What you need to look up in the help file is "frame grab"
You cna do it from the disc, but if doing lots of work it's often easier adn
quicker to run it from the hdd.

Thank you so much. Guess I'll have to buy it. Is it easy to use? Every time I
try to print a picture out it tells me I should resize picture for better
quality. Do you know what that means? What would my settings be for a 4x6
picture? Linda

You should use a graphics program (even Paint will do at a push)... to
resize. You may need to crop the image to make sure you get exactly what
you want in the photo print.

Pinnacle Studio 9 will do what you need, Select the Index tab on the
Help screen and type in "Frame grabber" without the quates. There are a
couple of help topics that describe how. I don't know about some of the
other products that have been mentioned but Studio will let you advance
thru the vidio a frame at a time which enables you to capture the
specific frame you want.

Earlier versions of Studio, at least as early as version 7 would do
frame grabs, at least in certain file types. I don't have 7 installed
though, and I don't remember what file types were supported nor how to
do the framb grab. If 7 is the version you are using you can probably
find out how to do it in the Help files.
