CD/RW not reading discs

Post CD/RW not reading discs
Ok, using CD-RW (UDF) media is not the best media to use in XP without a UDF
reader software like Nero's InCd, Sonic DLA, etc, compared to CD-R media, see
links below for reference..
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321640/

Also, make sure the IMAPI burning service is set to automatic in your
services window.. Type services.msc in the Run box and scroll down to see if
it is started and set to automatic, is it..? Right click on the service,
properties, general tab, startup type, (v) click the drop down arrow, select
automatic, apply, ok, and your done..
If you need to you can reverse the above procedure to turn off the XP
inbuilt CD burner for use with third party software too, if needed or for
testing purposes..

Check out the ISOBuster app and the free CDburnerXP Pro too, may help you to
see your data..

Have you tried using the CD-RW media containing your data in another
computer..?

http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/LiveUpdate/LiveUpdate.asp
Not sure if your drive is supported, might check or see if liveupdate works
for your model..?

As a last resort get a new optical drive that includes Nero or Roxio burning
software..

Post your results.. No pain no gain.. Smile
Cheers..

Hi,
I tried the badcopy. The first message was - your cd drive appears not ready
(e.g. the disc is not inserted or drive door not closed) do you want to
continue to scan the disc? When the disc was in, the door was closed and on a
full disc of files it did not find one. I went through the 3 processes too.

Post CD/RW not reading discs
To reinstall the MS generic cdrom drivers.. In my computer, tools, folder
options, view tab, in advanced settings, you'll need to first mark "show
hidden files and folders", then uncheck the box for "Hide extensions of
known file types".. Now you can go to the windows\INF folder and find
"cdrom.inf" and right click it, select install from the menu.. Remember to
change back to your original settings in folder options..

Also, you might have an autoplay problem..?

Look these links over, your call..

The drive may just need to be replaced, if you can't get it to work..

Post your results..

Post CD/RW not reading discs
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Try The Windows XP TweakUI powertoy to disable the autoplay feature on the
CD/DVD drives, may be part of the problem..
Tried it myself and Nero InCD now sees my DVD/CD-RW media as Pink instead of
solid blue, DVD/CD-R is seen as RAW or blue as I would expect since
disabling the inbuilt, your results may vary..
Hope it can help

No luck with that either. I am sure a few years ago I had the same problem
and it was to do with the filters. But that tool which I used & cannot
remember the name, fixed it.

Post CD/RW not reading discs
Not sure why you can't seem to get the files off the CD, unless it was never
there or your drive is defective, get a new one and see if that helps..

Wish I could see what was really going on with the hardware or if you may
just be confused a little, it happens to us all at times..

Not sure what to do now as I am unsure of what you have tried or haven't,
though I thought you cleared the filters days ago..

Cheers
